The hilot (pronounced as hee-lot) is an age-old, highly intuitive and uniquely Filipino touch therapy that is customized to the needs of each client in order to remove congestions or energy imbalances to restore the body’s harmony and thereby allow the client to achieve a renewed state of wellness.
Deeply rooted in the Filipinos’ long tradition of wellness, hilot is now widely recognized as an effective healing technique along with Ayurveda, shiatsu and reflexology. A hilot session begins with the manghihilot (the hilot practitioner) locating where the energy imbalances or congestions lie.
Using virgin coconut oil and strips of heated banana leaves which are run over the client’s body, the manghihilot is able to identify the congested areas. Banana leaves contain both medicinal and herbal elements. Natural ionizers, these leaves also have an antiseptic effect and have long been used to help treat illnesses from flus to sprains and even bone dislocations.
Using a healing technique handed down from generation to generation, the manghihilot then deeply massages the congested areas with upward, circular or downward strokes depending on the nature of the congestion. The treatment provided by the manghihilot is holistic as it heals the body, relaxes the mind and brings the spirit back to perfect harmony.
